Disneyland Magic Kingdom Pin Map

.
In April of 2005, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Disneyland, the Disney Catalog reprinted a 1956 Disneyland map, and produced pins of certain attractions and other elements into six pins representing the original Disneyland lands, limited to 1500 sets. A certificate of authenticity is on the back, but it doesn’t give a specific number.

Disney’ Pocahontas MEEKO Character Toy

Back when Pocahontas came out in 1995, I was immediately drawn to her raccoon friend, Meeko. And I started collecting everything Meeko. I have many varied items, and I still pick up items when I come across them all these years later.
.
I picked this guy up at the Flea Market for $1.
.
.
It appears he is supposed to be pulled back on his wheels, released, and have his head move back and forth, but, alas, he no longer works.
.
.
It also seems he should be holding a cookie or other food item, but is missing that as well.
..
I’m not sure where he is from, as there is no indication.
..
As I have no information on that figure, I thought I’d share one I do know a little more about, that also has wheels, his cookie, and works when wound up. This Meeko is from Burger King.
.
..
.
.

.
I have many more Meeko pieces to share in the future, so please stop back.

Mickey Mouse Bubble Maker by Tootsietoy

A Mickey bubble maker might be a strange thing for a grown man to have, but I’m in touch with my fun side, so it’s all good!
.
.
I’m not sure when and where I got this, but I’ve had it for a long time, so I’m guessing it’s at least 20 years old.
.
.
Rub A Dub Dub.
..
I also don’t know if it works, because I have no idea where it’s been, and I’m a bit of a germaphobe.
.
.
Made by Tootsietoy, which, according to their website, is celebrating 130 years of fun!
..
Now that’s fun with bubbles!

BOOK REVIEW: Walt’s Time by the Sherman Brothers

On March 5th, 2012, the world lost a musical genius and Disney Legend, Robert B. Sherman.
If you are looking at this blog, you are very likely familiar with the works of Robert and his brother, Richard M. Sherman.
To go into detail as to the Sherman Brother’s contribution to Disney, indeed, music in general, would take many, many pages.
There is actually a book that does just that.
.
A couple of years ago, my wife bought me this book for my birthday. I’m not sure what she payed, but it is out of print, and fairly collectible.
“Walt’s Time: from before to beyond” is from 1998, 252 pages long, and is packed with many wonderful stories of their time with Walt and beyond.
.

.
The inside lists just a few of the many songs that have been part of my life from birth.
.
.
The book begins with the Sherman Brother’s very first meeting with Walt, their associations at the studio, and many sketches from animators and illustrators at the Walt Disney Studios.
.
.
.
From live action movies, animated films, and the Disney Parks, the Sherman Brother’s have contributed some of the most beloved songs ever written.
..
.
..
A lovely tribute to Walt Disney, who, along with their father, the brothers considered their biggest influence.
.
.
In 1990, the brothers were named Disney Legends.
.
.
This book is a wonderful look at 2 musical giants.

Walt Disney World ‘Shag’ Coaster Set

You just never know what you’ll find in the way of merchandise when you visit Walt Disney World! Sometimes, it is something truly special:

...

Many are familiar with Shag’s work (Josh Agle) and would snap up an interesting set of coasters like this! Shag has a terrific retro style that is very appealing.
.
..
.

A little steep in price for a coaster set, but well worth it to bring an interesting artists work into your home, with a Disney twist!

Walt Disney World Globe by Rand McNally

GUEST BLOGGER: Nick Maglio

As a collector, I have a wide range of tastes. As you may know, I collect Disney. I also have collected comic books, Star Wars, and Muppets (before they were Disney). In addition, I have a sizable globe and map collection, reflecting my love of travel. So, put two things I love to collect together, and you have a sure fire winner, such as Star Wars and Disney, or Star Wars and Muppets.
Another winner is this metal Disney globe. It’s a smaller globe, measuring 10″ from the base.
.
..
.
Brought to us by Walt Disney and Rand McNally.
..
I’ve dated this globe to the late 1950s. As globes are not dated, you can figure out roughly when they were manufactured by geopolitical names and boundaries. Now, I’m no scholar, as anyone I know will tell you, but this globe also has a couple of clues that helped me reach that conclusion.
First, I know it’s from after 1955 by this wonderful little graphic of Mickey inviting us to “Visit Disneyland and see All your Disney friends like ME.”
..
Then, the globe also shows Goofy riding a camel across French West Africa, which Wikipedia tells me was a federation that existed from 1895 until 1960. So, It had to be made somewhere between 1955 and 1960.
Best guess.
.
.
Mickey points the way, and lets us know “There’s something to learn Wherever you turn.”
..
Indeed, there are little bits of trivia all around this globe.
..
.
.
.
.
.
.
The base has some interesting characters, including Willie the Whale from the short cartoon “The Whale Who Wanted to Sing at the Met” from the 1946 “package film” ” Make Mine Music” from 1946.
.
.
.
I couldn’t find any information as to who this penguin was, even in The Encyclopedia of Walt Disney’s Animated Characters. Even he seems to have a “Eh, I don’t know” attitude about it! But then Lee found out that he is The Cold-Blooded Penguin from a Short from “The Three Cabelleros”, narrated by Sterling Holloway in 1945. His name is Pablo. (Thanks Lee!)
.
.
I thought I’d share a picture of part of my globe collection. There are several more, scattered around the house. You may also see a few Disney items in this photo, all of which I’ll be sharing here in the future.

Disney Store New York City Dapper Mickey Figurine

Until a couple of years ago, New York City, more specifically, Manhattan, had one of the best Disney Stores, located on 5th Avenue. There were several floors of merchandise and collectibles, and no trip to New York was complete without a visit to this wonderful store. In fact, we made trips to NYC just to visit it! Sadly, that location closed, and was replaced by a smaller store on Broadway, resembling a glorified local Disney store. It’s okay, but nowhere near as spectacular, and certainly not a destination unto itself.
I got this exclusive Mickey ceramic at the old 5th Avenue locale.
.
Mickey is ready to pick up Minnie for a show on Broadway.
.
..
.
I wouldn’t discourage anyone from visiting the new Disney store on Broadway. Any Disney Store is better than no Disney Store. And they still have exclusives!

Disney Store in Las Vegas Mickey as Caesar Figurine

Back in the early 2000s, there was a terrific Disney Store located in Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, which is where this this Mickey as Caesar ceramic figure was found:
.

..
.
I did a store location search through the Disney Store Website, and the Caesar’s location is apparently no longer there, but there are 2 other locations in Las Vegas.
.
I’m sure there are other places in Vegas to pick up Disney stuff. Right?

Mighty Beanz Lightning McQueen Carrying Case

“Gentleman. Start your Beanz!” No, it isn’t the beginning of a chili-eating contest, but the call to the line for the next running of the Piston Cup.
.
I have many of these little Beanz. But my problem quickly became – What do I do with all these Beanz? Voila:
.
.
The Mighty Beanz carrying case
.
.
Mighty Beanz are made in several different series, with Disney having only this one Cars2 line. So there are other cases available, but I bought this one for obvious reasons.
.
.
Cruisin’ Lightning McQueen (9) and Piston Cup Trophy (35)
.
This case came with two Mighty Beanz, and fortunately, I got two that I didn’t already have. And getting the coveted Piston Cup was a thrill!
.
.
Plenty of room for more!
.
However, there is only room for just 40 or so Beanz in this case, while there are 54 Cars2 Beanz to collect. What’s up with that?
.
.
One inch high Beanz with the case for scale
.
.
Resting between races
.
I have to admit that this Mighty Beanz thing has me hooked. I’d love to get the entire set, but unfortunately (or fortunately for my wallet) I can’t find them in my area anymore.
.
I can only assume they didn’t sell well so stores stopped carrying them. In any event, I’ll keep looking, and collecting!

Mickey Mouse Desk and Wall Calendars

With you every day…

.
What a faithful mouse! Mickey just sits or hangs around all day, every day, just waiting to tell you what day it is. OK, not the most exciting job, but he seems to like it.
.
Of course, I’m talking about calendars:
.
.
2012 Animated Desk Calendar
.
.
Sorry, pictures just don’t do the effect justice
.
.
2012 Wall Calendar
.
.
.
Now sit back and get ready for a stroll through the months:
.
.
Hangs next to my computer work station
.
Both calendars were anniversary gifts. I don’t usually buy calendars for myself, but always appreciate them as gifts.
