Fantasia 2000 Flamingo with Mickey Ears

This very amusing, and amused looking, flamingo, comes from the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival, circa 2011.

Of course he’s happy, he was at Walt Disney World! But first he was one of the stars of the Fantasia reboot entitled Fantasia 2000 released in late 1999. The Carnival of the Animals was used to ask the musical question: “What would happen if you gave a yo-yo to a flock of flamingoes?” A flock of flamingoes tries to force a slapstick member, who enjoys playing with a yo-yo, to engage in the flock’s “dull” routines. This segment was introduced by James Earl Jones.

Authentic Original Disney Parks merchandise

Of course, it is so authentic to the North American parks, that it is made in… China. And that’s just how it is, folks!

Pewter Epcot Center Bell and Figment Figure

I picked these two pewter pieces up in the early 90’s.

I love Spaceship Earth, so I had to have this for one very good reason: It was affordable! A driving motivation in most of my purchases.

No indication as to where it was made.

Of course, regular blog readers will know why I bought this pewter Figment: Love!

         Beautiful detail!

Again, no indication where it’s from, just that it’s for the Walt Disney Co.

Sometimes the smallest things are the most treasured!

Mickey Mouse Framed Drawing

Guest Blogger: Nick Maglio

Back in the mid 90’s I worked part-time for an animation gallery in Philadelphia. I would trade my time, and artistic abilities, painting backgrounds for animation collectors to display their cels over, for credit towards animation sketches, production drawings, and production cels.

Due to the exorbitant prices that Disney animation art demanded in the 1990’s, I only have a few Disney production drawings, and this one sketch of Mickey Mouse:

Each piece I have has a story, and this one is very interesting. Apparently it came from a collection given to a grandson by his grandmother who worked at the Disney Studios as a cleaning person. She would pick out discarded drawings from the trash, bring them home, cut them out, and paste them in a book.

I was drawn to this because, while I have no way of knowing absolutely, it sure looks like Mickey as the Brave Little Tailor. He appears to be sporting a tunic and those floppy moccasins he wears in my favorite Mickey animated short.

Regardless, it’s a Mickey from my favorite era of Disney animation, and I’m thrilled to own it.

Figment Hand Puppet

Today we have a cute little Figment hand puppet:

Like other Figment items, I’m curios as to why the label says Disneyland in addition to Walt Disney World, as Figment is a purely Epcot-in-Walt-Disney-World native. Did they sell these items in Disneyland?

A product of Korea

He loves you “this much”

This is a prime example of why dual-park branding is just plain silly. About as silly as an imaginary purple dragon!

Walt Disney World Ticket Books

Guest Blogger: Gaylin

And we’re going back to 1978 to show some surviving ticket books and a parking stub. As you notice there are no ‘E’ tickets left in either book. Those were always the first ones used up.

I seem to remember the day we were there was a very hot day in July (is there any other kind of day in Florida in July!) and we stood in line for Splash Mountain for at least an hour. Wow, parking was 50 cents for the whole day! Well, 48 cents and 2 pennies in tax. I even wrote on the back which lot and row we were in.

We were supposed drive home to my friend’s house in Rockledge, FL at a ‘decent time’ but of course we were teenage girls and had to stay to see what happened after dark at the Magic Kingdom!

Disneyland Coin and Gift Card

Guest Blogger: Nick Maglio

I just found these in a drawer. They are from our first trip to Disneyland in 2008.

The coin was part of our package from the Disney Travel Company, which is who we booked the trip with.

I picked this gift card up because I loved the Monorail artwork:

As fun to spend as it was to buy! Maybe more-so.

Sleeping Beauty Ceramic Figures

Guest Blogger: Nick Maglio

A friend gave my wife and me several ceramic bisque figurines that had belonged to her mother.

These are of Princess Aurora, who by the time she meets Prince Philip is now Briar Rose, and who will eventually be Sleeping Beauty.

They are 6 1/4″ tall

We aren’t sure where they were purchased, but they originally sold for $12.99. Searching online, they are supposedly hard to find.

Made in Japan

It’s wonderful to have these in my collection now!

Donald and Pluto Storybook Vinylmations

So, are you a Vinylmation fan? We are here at Disney Nouns and have quite a few figures between us. Sometimes we come across some sets that we just can’t resist:

This Theme Park exclusive Storybook Vinylmations set comes from the DisneyStore.com and is a wonderful release!

I love this set, and love the artwork on the box. Mickey and Donald are touring Disneyland:

Goofy and Minnie have decided to go there own way and are visiting Walt Disney World:

If you look closely, you’ll see the backpack on Donald. Awesome!

These sets are not cheap, and you may question your sanity for spending $26.95 plus tax and shipping.

Would you remove these Vinyls from their box or leave this lovely package intact?

For now, this example stays sealed. Mint in box. I’ll open the box from time to time to give them a little air!

1978 Park Guide Map Booklet

Guest Archivist: Gaylin

It surprises me that the Disney shopping bags from my 1978 trip survived for the last 34 years and fared quite well being as this park guide map is in rough shape. Vancouver is quite a damp place to live and I did not do a great job of storing this.

Front and Back covers

The back cover has a nice selection of ‘new’ movies for 1978. The Jungle Book would have been a re-release. Don Knots in Hot Lead and Cold Feet and The Cat From Outer Space were two funny movies!

Table of copious contents

It’s a shame that Captain Nemo left WDW forever!

Nice overview maps

Resort fun at its most Polynesian and Contemporary

Golf Resort Hotel is no more, at least, not under that name

Concluding with more recreational activities

I guess people in the 1970’s needed a lot of instruction on how to have a good vacation because this booklet has 32 pages!
