Walt Disney World Wooden Box and Mickey Tin

Guest Contributor: Gaylin

I found this small wooden box (4″ x 2.25″) in the glass shop on Main Street at the Magic Kingdom and loved it.

Small, well made and while it doesn’t hold much, it looks great.
I don’t have very valuable jewelry, mostly sentimental but it is nice to have a pretty box to put it in.
The small magnetic dots keep it closed quite tightly. I didn’t take a photo of the bottom as it is completely plain, no markings of any kind.
When you buy a watch at Disney World, you often get a tin container to store it in. I have 2 watches that came in these containers.
.
I use them to store other things as I am always wearing one or the other of the watches! I think both watches cost $45 and I do like having the tins to put things in, shiny things, things with Mickey on them!
.
Hmmmm, maybe one day I will remember to take photos of the watches themselves.

Disney Dollars featuring Mickey Mouse

84 years ago today, “Steamboat Willie” was released, making a star out of Mickey Mouse. And 4 years ago, Disney released these Disney Dollars to celebrate Mickey’s 80th Anniversary.

The one dollar bill features the “pie-eyed” Mickey of the early 1930’s:

1928-2008, Mickey Mouse, Eightieth Anniversary

The back of each bill features a nice illustration of Mickey’s evolution through his 80 years

The five features Mickey as the Mickey Mouse Club Bandleader, from the mid 1950’s

The ten features the modern, computer generated Mickey Mouse

Happy 84th, Mickey Mouse!

Fix-It Felix Jr. Cup Topper

When I attend the local Galaxy cinemas, I like to pick up the latest cup topper. Usually Disney will offer these for their more popular releases. Of course, you can only get them by buying a Kid’s Combo ($5.00) which gives you a scoop of popcorn and a sprinkle of pop.

Oh, the things I do for collecting!

Felix is the maintenance man of an apartment building in Niceland, and he possesses a magic hammer that fixes anything.

He is voiced by Jack McBrayer, who plays Kenneth on the American situation comedy, “Thirty Rock”.

While not repairing the damage caused by Ralph, Felix spends his time helping the other residents of Niceland.

The figure comes off the top of the lid, but I’m going to display it just like this, as I dig the retro video game graphics on the cup.

If you go see Wreck-It Ralph, I hope you Enjoy-It! And be sure to pick up yourself a great cup topper!

Wreck-It-Ralph at the Disney Store

Today, Wreck-It-Ralph, the story of a video game bad guy who wants to go good, is being released by Disney, and the Disney Store has a wide assortment of merchandise.

Plush Ralph

Plush Fix-it Felix, Jr., the good guy

Nice retro arcade game graphic style graphic tees.

Figurine play set

Disney has some nice merchandise for girls as well, with a  character called Venellope Von Schweetz, from the racing video game, “Sugar Rush”, and other female characters.

In fact, while I was there, this young lady picked out a Venellope plush for herself.

Wreck-It-Ralph is Disney’s 52nd Theatrical Animated Feature.

Disney Dollars featuring the Princesses

Guest Blogger: Nick Maglio

In this post, I am sharing several Disney Dollars that feature the fairest characters of them all: The Princesses:

From ‘The Happiest Celebration on Earth’ promotion

The back features Sleeping Beauty Castle. Which leads me to wonder why Sleeping Beauty wasn’t the featured Princess??? The back of the bill is shown below:

So let’s move on to some more Disney Dollars with other Princesses prominently featured. In 2007, Disney Dollars celebrated 20 years with a $1, $5, and $10 Princess dollars. The $1 bill features Ariel, the Little Mermaid:

1987-2007: Twenty Years of Disney Dollars

The $5 bill features Aurora, the Sleeping Beauty. But I don’t have an image of the front of that bill. The backs of all of these Disney Dollars feature a lovely illustration of Cinderella Castle with Tinker Bell flying overhead:

“Disney Parks: Where dreams come true!”

Cinderella makes a return appearance on the $10 bill:

I hope you’ve enjoyed our All-Princess addition of Disney Dollars!

Disney Dollars featuring Disneyland’s 50th

In 2005, Disneyland celebrated its 50th Anniversary, and there were commemorative Disney Dollars released in conjunction with this momentous occasion. Let’s start with the 5 dollar denomination, featuring Donald Duck.

Along with Donald on the front is the “Happiest Celebration on Earth” castle logo

The back has Tinker Bell bracketing a 1955-2005 banner, which itself brackets a beautiful illustration of Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Disneyland Resort: The Happiest Place on Earth. Another $5 bill released, which I sadly don’t have, is one featuring Goofy.

Next up we have the $10 bill, with Minnie Mouse:

Same back as the $5 bill

.

There is also a $10 bill with Stitch, which I, unforgivably, don’t have.

Wait. Where’s the One Dollar Disney Dollar, presumably with Mickey Mouse? Well, believe it or not, Mickey was not on the $1 bill. Mickey was on a $50 bill! And no, I don’t have one! Dumbo was on one of the…Ones, again, not in my possession.

But I do have many other Disney Dollars, and you can find them by using the Search box in the top right corner of this blog. It’ll be worth the searching!

Magic Kingdom Metal Lunch Box

Guest Blogger: Nick Maglio

I love lunch boxes. They remind me of the (relatively) carefree days of my youth. I had a metal lunch box, of course, but confess, it wasn’t a Disney lunch box! As an adult I’ve made up for this by buying as many reasonably priced boxes as I can get my hands on. I got this one on eBay several years ago.

This box is pretty exciting! Mickey, Donald and Pluto enjoy Space Mountain, which seems to have broken free of the attraction building, and has flown past Cinderella Castle, as a pirate from Pirates of the Caribbean prepares to take aim and shoot the errant craft down! Whew!

Then there’s the back, which is, arguably, even more dramatic. Mickey’s nephews, Morty and Ferdie, while trying to get away from an escaped elephant from The Jungle Cruise, are running right into the path of the runaway train over at Big Thunder Mountain, while the Haunted Mansion caretaker looks on! I hope those crazy kids will be okay!

This is all too much for me! Let’s calm down by taking a ride on It’s a Small World

The image continues all the way around the sides of the box

The inside is actually pretty clean

From the thermos, it looks like Mickey is okay and enjoying the fireworks, thank goodness. It was  some day!

Boxed Grumpy Collectible Doll

Guest Blogger: Nick Maglio

Initially, I was going to title this post “Grumpy Collectible Figure“. But let’s face facts: this is a doll.

Not sure of the year of release on this, but as its got “The Walt Disney Company” on it, its post-1986.

This, action figure, (okay, it’s a doll!), is 6.5 inches high, fully jointed, and made in China.

Just for you, I took it out of the box. But I won’t take it off its card! Sorry. Let’s look at that booklet:

Now, the front of the box says “Cumberland Toys”. Yet this books says “Bikin”. Not sure why.

I’m not sure where I got this. It’s a riddle wrapped in an enigma, all in a nice box.

So many other ‘action figures’ to collect!

Disney World’s 25th Anniversary Medallion Coin

Guest Blogger: Nick Maglio

I thought I’d share this coin/medallion, as it features the great characters of Genie, Goofy, Mickey, and Simba, along with Lumiere!

It measures 1.5 inches in diameter. I’m not sure what I paid for this piece, but do know it came with a protective sleeve, which I no longer have.

“A Magical Time in a Magical Place”. That can be said of every trip to The Vacation Kingdom!

Figment’s Going to Walt Disney World

Figment has his bags packed, and, not surprisingly, he’s heading to Walt Disney World. But  more specifically: Epcot.

Instead of an ID, credit cards, and photos of Dreamfinder, Figment’s wallet seems to contain, well, his name. Which, I suppose, makes that his ID.

This large resin Figment was a gift from my wife. She won’t divulge the price, but says she got a good deal on eBay, not anywhere near the original price of $95 US. It came from The Art of Disney shop in Downtown Disney.

At 9 inches tall, and 7 wide, this is a hefty piece

But back to Figment and his trip to Walt Disney World. What do you suppose he has packed in those bags? Well, let’s take a look in the one on the ground there:

Hmm, looks like a shirt…

It is indeed a shirt. A Figment shirt!

Actually, it’s a Figment shirt, resin pin

Today, we are also heading to Walt Disney World,  and I’m sure we’ll see Figment there!
