Disney Parks ‘Year 2000’ Merchandise

Yes folks, it was a time when WE all thought we were going to die in a computer Armageddon as all of our electronics crashed simultaneously, but Disney just threw another party.

Hey, if you’re going to go, why not go out with some sweet Disney Parks ‘Year 2000’ Merchandise:

If was uncertain if cash registers would work on the eve of the year 2000, but Disney was ready with stores full of souvenirs, no matter what happened!

Above, you can see a nice ceramic plate from The Art of Disney depicting both Walt Disney World and Disneyland castles. It may not be obvious at first, but I think the gang is perched atop Spaceship Earth from EPCOT. Safe? No, but then why worry so close to the end of everything?

I also found this commemorative pin. I wasn’t there during the actual celebration. It would be almost seven years before my wife and I would make our first trip together to WDW. But I have the keepsake anyway.

‘Celebrate the Future Land to Land’ is a reference to the two continental Theme Parks depicted on the front of the plate. As with most of these items, it is for decorative use only, so don’t be having any ‘Goodbye Cruel World’ treats on this if you don’t want to die of food poisoning. Wait…

Many didn’t care for this promotion but I do like much of the merchandise it spawned. You can see more from my collection by checking out my WDW 2000 Vacation Planning Guide VHS or my other 2000 Collector Plate.
