Walt Disney World ‘Lands’ Glass Coaster Set

Where would you like to go in Walt Disney World? Each ‘Land’ offers something unique and exciting to explore! But eventually, you have to go home (insert sad face here).

But Disney Merchandising has you covered with this Walt Disney World ‘Lands’ glass coaster set that you can use to remember all of those special experiences at the Magic Kingdom:

The only problem is: Which coaster do I use? I’d hate to show favoritism! But between you and me, I’d choose Adventureland.

Let’s have a closer look at each coaster in turn:

What, no Frontierland or Tomorrowland? Maybe there was a Glass Coaster Set 2.0 or something.

I like how the main glass is tinted so it makes the green and blue colours really pop!

For more fun with coasters, I have a single one cast in bronze that also features Walt Disney World and Mickey Mouse. Enjoy!

Mickey and Minnie Mouse Handkerchief

I have two of these cloth squares from J. A. Woronowicz. You can click the link to my previous post entitled Mickey’s 1001 Hellos World Tour Banner to learn more about this manufacturer.

When you return, check out this awesome Mickey and Minnie Mouse Handkerchief:

I think she blew his mind!

This is such a fun image! Just what did Minnie say to Mickey to get that reaction?!? Maybe it’s best that we don’t know.

The colour schemes for both Mickey and Minnie are incorrect. But I assume this was done to make for a more harmonious and pleasing colour palette with the background.

Time to go. I feel a sniffle coming on!

Vintage Walt Disney World Blue Pennant

As early as the late 1800s, the world had felt pennants. But they became popular novelties much later thanks to two cultural changes: the introduction of colleges and universities, and the popularity of all things sports.  By the end of the 19th century, these changes combined to create the perfect environment for these little scraps of cloth with words on them to proliferate!

This vintage Walt Disney World blue pennant is not sports related, obviously, but it is instead a representation of how the pennant graduated from sporting events to the souvenir trade:

This bears the trademark of Walt Disney Productions thus dating this pennant to before 1987. It is in well used condition.

This type of castle logo was used from 1971 through to the late 1980s on much of the merchandise and souvenirs from Walt Disney World.

It seems strange that something that was designed to be waved in a crowd to attract attention to a team or product, isn’t printed on both sides.

Oh well. “Go Team Disney!”

Pixar’s Brave: HotWheels Pizza Planet Truck

Brave is a 2012 animated movie by Pixar that I didn’t particularly care for. It came out during a time when Disney was doing Pixar-style movies and for some reason, Pixar decided to do a Disney movie. Funny enough, Disney pulled it off, but Pixar fell flat, in my opinion.

I hadn’t found any merchandise from Brave that appealed to me until I came across this Pizza Planet Truck:

It is painted to look like it was carved out of wood. In the film, an old woman is visited by the main character, Merida, who finds her carving The Thinker. But as you can see on the packaging below, there is a completed piece on the desk:

Yup, Pixar fits in another cameo of the Pizza Planet Truck in perhaps the most unlikely place yet: In Medieval Scotland!

I’m willing to let that go because it gave us one of the most awesome die cast vehicles of all time:

2018 Mattel

It even smells like pizza! No it doesn’t. But it should.

I have a more on model version of the Pizza Planet Truck that is patterned after the characters from another movie from Pixar, CARS. It is bigger than the usual ratio size because it is a premium issue. Oh, and remember, the Pizza Planet Truck is actually from yet another Pixar film, Toy Story. So, we now have three movies linked to this product. It’s exhausting trying to keep track of this truck!

I wonder if it’s too late to order pizza.

Negatron Funko 2017 Summer Convention Exclusive

Who is Negatron? He looks just like Disney’s ‘Terror that flaps in the night’, Darkwing Duck. And for good reason. This greytone figure is the first character to be called Negaduck. While the second Negaduck was Darkwing’s evil twin from a parallel universe known as the Negaverse, this Negaduck, or Negatron, was a living manifestation of Darkwing’s evil side. He appears only in one episode of the television series.

This sculpt is identical to the one used for both the actual Darkwing Duck figure and the second character to be called Negaduck. You will see a picture of all three figures at the end of this post.

This exclusive figure was made for the San Diego Comic Con but was also released commercially afterwards. If this was a Comic Con release, it would have a sticker saying so. So, mine was designed for the event but it was not bought there.

Negatron is supposed to glow in the dark. While he does have flecks of paint that will give off a minimal luminescence, ‘glow’ many be overstating things. The surface of this figure is rougher than the other two figures because of the paint type.

I paid $35.00 CAN for this figure which is much more than I paid for either of the others below. But to complete my set, it was worth it!

If things go the way I think they are going to, Darkwing is soon to become the ‘Terrified One that gets beat up in the night!’

Fortunately for me, there are no other versions of Darkwing Duck to collect. Unless yet another alternate universe POPs up!

To see more of my Funko POP! figures, featuring Heroes and Villains, just click the link! I also have a Funko POP! plush of Darkwing Duck, of all things!

Toy Story Buzz Lightyear Plush Backpack

Most children have gone back to school as of the publishing of this post and perhaps some would love to have Buzz lightyear along for the bus ride! Sporting his signature grin, everyone’s favorite Space Cadet (“I believe the word you’re looking for is ‘Space Ranger‘”) is pumped to visit any edifice of education.

I picked this backpack up at a local Charity Shop for around $15.00 CAN. I believe they are fairly hard to find and so much more valuable to the Disney collector than that price would reflect.

Space is vast and perfect for going to infinity and beyond, but don’t expect that much cargo capacity in Buzz’s pouch!

A nice feature of this line of backpacks is the hard plastic face. Later versions were completely plush. I now have both Buzz and Woody in this earlier line. You can check out Buzz’s cowboy buddie by clicking the post entitled Toy Story Woody Plush Backpack.

When Buzz is stretched out on your back, he is a full 24″ tall. I’ve shown him below with Woody for comparison, who stretches out to be about 28″ tall:

Both Buzz and Woody were good sports about cooperating with the photo shoot for this post. It was a lot to ask of the pals as they are no doubt very busy preparing for Toy Story 15.

Just Chillin’

After the shoot was over, they took some time to relax and enjoy some friendship. Indeed, they are strange little men!

These backpacks were made in China by Calego. What began as a small leather goods company has become one of the world’s leading developers and distributors of luggage, travel bags and accessories. It’s well worth the click and a quick scroll to the bottom of their official site to read the ‘Our Storied History’ section.

Route 66 Opoly Game by Masterpieces Inc.

Although I collect vintage games, I’m not really a big game player. I love the graphics and game boards. And if the game has interesting game pieces, like Monopoly, then I’m all in!

I also collect more modern board games like this Route 66 Opoly game by Masterpieces, Inc.

Monopoly has released many versions of its iconic game over the years. When I saw this one featuring my dream vacation, a drive down classic Route 66, I just had to have it!

The game board does not disappoint! It has many of the most iconic locations you can still find along the Mother Road, as well as some that have fallen to the sands of the desert they were built in. I’ve added ‘Vacation Planning’ to the tags for this post because I believe that playing this game could be a great way to plan what you would want to see along the way from Chicago to Los Angelos. Or from Los Angelos to Chicago, whichever direction suits your fancy!

The instructions are pretty much the same as for any Monopoly game. So, your family should be able to sit down and get right into the fun without much preamble.

Property Cards

Each Property Card has the name and State of each attraction along Route 66 that you can ‘buy’. The front of the cards also have a nice picture of the main things to see there. On the back of each card, you will find more sights listed from that location as well as a map showing where along the Route you are.

I’ve picked out two main Property Cards to show you: Chicago, IL where Route 66 begins, and Santa Monica, CA where Route 66 ends.

Masterpieces Inc. is a current company still producing games and puzzles. If you click on ‘Games’ on their site, you will find Route 66 Opoly still available for just $29.99 US.

As I said, I love these games for the themed tokens! And check out that gorgeous money! But the best part of all are the game pieces:

I love Airstream trailers! Likely that would be my pick to represent me in the game. But a jukebox or milkshake to represent the many diners along Route 66 would also be awesome. Or a motorcycle to represent traveling on the open road. Or the Cadillac or dinosaur to represent the Kitschy roadside attractions. You really can’t lose no matter which one you choose!

The rest of the cards are a lot of fun to read. You can learn even more about Route 66 with each draw on your turn.

Back of Game Box

The 1960-64 television series called Route 66 featured a red Corvette, so I expected to see one on the packaging of this game. But instead, we have a variety of iconic muscle cars. I can live with that!

The goal of Route 66 Opoly is to collect the most properties to win. But I think just playing such a fun game makes everyone a winner!

Mickey Mouse Plastic Drink Coaster Set

The thing about decorative drink coasters is that you almost hate to use them! They look so nice, and you don’t want to have them stained or broken.

Well, problem solved. I bring you the Mickey Mouse plastic drink coaster set:

I have other coaster sets that simply stack on top of each other, but this set comes with its own holder to keep the four coasters together when not in use.

Each coaster in this set is identical except for the colour. We have:

This set was released in 1975 which makes it a whopping 47 years old at the point of the publishing of this post!

Good old Walt Disney Productions only had about 10 years left after copyrighting this set. Let’s end with a nice shot of the coasters all spread out:

For more fun with Mickey on coaters, check out my previous post featuring everyone’s favorite mouse, but with his whole body this time. Mickey Mouse ‘Through the Years’ Coasters is sure to please!

Walt Disney World Disney Buses 3 Pack Set

I tend to spend way too much on merchandise when I visit the Disney Parks! Fortunately, I haven’t been able to go for quite a few years, so my pocketbook thanks me daily.

But back in the day my vacations were 50% fun and 50% buying stuff, like this Walt Disney World Disney Buses 3 Pack Set:

For just $12.00 US this was a deal too good to pass up! I always enjoyed riding around on the buses during my vacations. It was almost like an attraction unto itself.

I had the pleasure of riding Disney’s Magical Express once way back in 2007 during our very first visit to Walt Disney World as a couple. It really did get the vacation off to the best start! It’s so unfortunate that Disney has chosen to discontinue this free service.

These are diecast models with quite a nice level of detail. Note that the top bus, the Disney Transport, has only one rear axle, whereas the other two buses have dual rear axles. It’s always nice when the designers take the time to be that authentic!

This piece of merchandise is part of the Theme Park Edition line sold exclusively at Walt Disney World. Any item in this line would make a great souvenir as they are small enough to fit into your luggage and the cost is very reasonable.

Back of Box

Disney never puts a date on these types of merchandise likely to make them seem fresh and new to first-time visitors. But if we go by the back of the box where it mentions that Disney’s Magical Express is the newest addition to the bus fleet, we can extrapolate that it is probably from 2005, the year this service was first offered.

Disney’s Magical Express ceased operation on January 10th of 2022. So now this 3 pack can only be sold as a 2 pack!

Check out my Disney Transport Parking Tram and my Disney Thrill Ride 5-Pack set featuring some awesome ride vehicles!

Book Review: ‘A Friend Like You’ Mini Book

Publisher: Andrews McMeel Publishing

Year: 2001

Pages: 132

Type: Hardcover

ISBN: 0-7407-1085-0

A friend like you slows down a dizzy world.”

At just about 2″ square this book won’t win the Biggest Thing Ever Award of 2022! But it does have a big heart, and that has to count for something.

This book relies heavily on images lifted from decades of vintage Disney Shorts. Each page has a saying that pertains to the image selected.

With the dust jacket off, you can see the actual cover design:

I always enjoy the inside patterns chosen to decorate the inside front and back cover boards. This one features Mickey and Pluto with other familiar Disney imagery.

The text, such as it is, was written by Patrick Regan. These books are produced for very young children, so the content tends to be very simplistic:

I thought I’d use this last image being as we are just entering Fall and Winter looms large on the horizon! But as Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale reminds us: A cup of tea makes everything better!

I’d give this book a 3.5 out of 5 Stars. It is for a very specific audience and wouldn’t necessarily be a book that a child would want to revisit often. The use of stock images is also a bit of a cheat. However, it is a nice little oddity to add to any book collection.

For another little book by Patrick Regan, check out I Thought of You Today and Smiled. I provide a review of it at the link.
