Market Road Antiques
.
I recently went to St. Jacobs, Ontario, for two business seminars. Although they took up most of my time during the day, I was free to explore this beautiful area by night.
.
Of course, being a Disneyana collector, my main focus was to find great places to browse and buy new treasures for my collection. As luck would have it, there was a fantastic antique store just minutes from my hotel!
.
Their tag line is: “100 Vendors, thousands of treasures, millions of memories!”
.
And with aisles like this one, I don’t doubt them:
.
.
Miles of aisles!
.
I naturally found quite a lot of great Disney stuff. Like these two cabinets, all from just one vendor. I was in Disneyana heaven:

I’ll have some close-up shots of these items in later posts
.
But in the interest of sharing just some of the wonders to be found in this great place, here are just a few of the items I found featuring Mickey Mouse:

I came so close to buying this one!

I highly recommend Market Road Antiques. The staff is very helpful, and the owner was very nice to let me take photographs of his business, and many of the collectibles within! Of course, I also dropped a considerable amount of money in his cash register, so…

These days, Internet selling sites are the best gauge for what price collectibles are fetching today. But don’t look at asking prices, only what things are selling for. Sites like this one can also be a resource as long as you check the date of the post to be sure the information is current.
As for information on manufacturers and dates, sites like this are usually the best, as we do quite a bit of research before posting anything as a fact. Otherwise, Instagram (or similar Social Media sites) seems to have many images that also have descriptions with dates and such. I usually check at least six different posts and compare what is claimed before believing anything is true.
Other than that, a general rule of thumb is that if it is a Disney item with ‘Walt Disney Productions’ as a copyright, it is pre-1987. If it was made in Japan, it is also likely around 40 years old or more, as Disney switched to using China for production sometime in the 1980’s. I’m afraid only experience can provide more information on an item than that!
I hope this helps and thanks for commenting! It means a lot to us.
